Harthill Reservoir upgrade
March 17, 2022 4:44 pmCanal River Trust are investing £5 million to upgrade Harthill Reservoir.
The project
Harthill Reservoir was constructed more than 200 years ago to supply water to the Chesterfield Canal, located approximately two miles to the north.
From time to time Canal River Trust need to upgrade and improve the canal infrastructure to present day standards. In December 2020 they announced plans to upgrade Harthill Reservoir by redesigning the overflow spillway to increase the resilience of the reservoir.
Since then, their team has been working hard to develop and assess the design of a new weir and overflow spillway.
The Proposals
In January 2022 Canal River Trust shared more information on their proposals for Harthill Reservoir. They have gathered feedback on these proposals through a public consultation.
The video below, which was shared as part of our recent consultation, explains more about the works we are planning to deliver. The presentation information is available to download here.
Next steps
Canal River Trust are now considering all of the feedback they received through consultation, as they work to refine and finalise their proposals. Canal Rover Trust hopes to soon be submitting a planning application for these works to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
Subject to planning permission, they anticipate starting their construction works later in the spring.
