Welcome to Yorkshire Outdoor Swimmers.

Please note that there will be no session on Saturday 8th June 2019.

This is the weekend of the Great North Swim which means many of our regular volunteers are unavailable.
Instead, there is a sailing course taking place at Harthill over the weekend and we will be returning as normal for our Tuesday swim on the 11th of June and back to normal the following Saturday.

Member Blog – YOS Winter Events 2018 (by Simon Porter)

Swimming is a funny old thing. Not so funny as to laugh whilst you're doing it, but funny nonetheless. It remains the country's favourite participation sport, way ahead of pretty much everything else, but even so, people tend to think of you as one of those people...

It’s our 4th Birthday!

In 2013 a small group of outdoor swimmers wanted to organise a regular swim in their local reservoir.  Yorkshire Outdoor Swimmers was born out of the need to formalise our attempts to gain official permission to swim at Harthill.  We spent most of the...

Team Ichthyosaurs Channel Relay

3 weeks after my last channel adventure I decided to do another one! There is a story behind why I ended up doing it again because it wasn’t planned to be so close to my last one. I already had plans to do another relay in future and eventually a solo but...

Dorkshire Swimmers Channel Relay

A year ago, me and 5 other swimmers decided to complete an English Channel Relay for a number of different reasons and to raise money for charity. After swimming through winter in skins (no wet suit), numerous trips to the sea, a 2-hour qualifier and many filled in...
We are a friendly open water swimming club based at Harthill Reservoir near Rotherham.  Our aim is to provide a safe and happy environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the open water and experience swimming outdoors in a natural environment.

We swim all year round every Saturday and Tuesday evenings in the summer.  Come along and meet us at one of our sessions, have a cup of tea and talk to our members.  Harthill reservoir has a track around it which offers a lovely walk around the first two lakes.  There is some lovely countryside around us and wildlife including Kingfishers and Herons around the lake and Deer in the surrounding woodlands.  Children can swim from age 9 and our venue is a great place for families.

Newcomers are welcome and our regular members are happy to swim along with you to make you feel at ease on your first swim.  Swimming outdoors is exhilarating and there are many claims of health benefits. If you haven’t tried it yet we have introductory sessions available to help you get started.

Since 2012 over 1800 people have swum with us at YOS, ranging from Team GB athletes to leisure swimmers and families.  Our winter swimmers have won medals at international ice swimming events including the British and European championships.
