Swimming temporarily suspended

Temporary halt to swimming
Sadly we will be pausing swimming at Harthill due to the low water levels and the quality of the water.

The decision has been taken collectively by the YOS committee members present today.

The level has dropped by approx 115cm making the straight from buoy 7 to 8 and back to zero approx 60cm deep. Swimmers today were catching the lake bed with hands and feet, making it unsafe for swimming. The low water level also made the launching and recovery of the safety boat difficult. The end of the pontoon had a water depth of approx 40cm.

The water was tested 7 days ago and was passed as suitable for swimming. The visual inspection today shows that there is an increased suspension of plant and pollen matter present. This left swimmers exiting the water with plant and pollen matter stuck to their skin and discolouring of swimwear.

Once we have some significant improvement in water quality and depth, we will recommence swimming.

As always, many thanks to the volunteers who make the swim sessions run. And thanks to you all for making YOS a great place to swim and socialise.
